On the Internet there are some pages talking about strange German behaviors. Most of it is incorrect and other things are not typical German but European and only strange to an American not used to it.

I never heard how strange it is that in Germany you can drive on Autobahn as fast as you want. Most Americans would like to have a BMW and do that. But isn’t that a

strange behavior if the whole world reduces the speed on the motorways and only the Germans are allowed to drive as fast as they want?

What looks strange, is it only in part. There is a general speed limit of 130 km/h (80 miles/hour) on the German Autobahn. But it is not enforced as it is a advised speed. On half of the motorways there is already today a speed limit below those 130 km/h (80 miles/hour). But also on the other half it isn’t so soft as it sounds. If you drive faster and there is an accident you may have at least part of the responsibility for the crash.
